Queen Elizabeth Grammar School offers a great range of facilities for our activity camps, including the sports hall, activity rooms and outdoor area, making it an ideal venue for Kings Camps (Ofsted No. EY321406).
Wakefield Grammar School Foundation is one of the country’s leading independent day schools.
The Telegraph ranked QEGS in the top 100 of independent schools in the country. The Independent ranked QEGS 31st in the country, based on A Level results, putting it into the top 1.5% of Independent Schools in the country.
QEGS is distinct from most other schools in that it was founded by Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I in 1591 at the request of leading citizens in Wakefield, 75 in total and some of whom formed the first governing body.
In 1854 QEGS moved to its present site in Northgate, Wakefield. The attached Junior school for boys was founded in 1910. More recently the school has invested in renovations and the brand new Saville Building has also been constructed in the grounds.
The school is conveniently located together with easy access to the West Yorkshire motorway network and within walking distance of Wakefield city centre. Wakefield Westgate train station is a short 10 minute walk from the schools with regular services from Leeds, Doncaster, Sheffield and Huddersfield. Additionally there are dedicated school bus services from Barnsley, Huddersfield, Pontefract and east of Leeds.
The school puts high emphasis on sports and thus provides excellent sporting facilities which are utilised on camp, these include: large sports hall, indoor swimming pool and activity areas, as well as a playground and large grass playing fields.
